Welcome, my name is Claire Brandreth and I am a fully qualified Craniosacral Therapist and Canine CranioSacral Therapist certified by the Upledger Institute.
I first heard about the benefits of CST when a friend recommended a CranioSacral Therapy treatment for my newly born daughter who was suffering with neck and shoulder problems. After a few treatments, I began to notice improvement in her movement and how positively my daughter was reacting to her CST treatments. I then decided to book a treatment for myself and I began to experience the benefits of CST treatments in helping to maintain my own overall well being.
I have always had an affinity towards dogs and currently have two myself. After witnessing the benefits of CST treatments on my own dogs, I decided to become a fully qualified Canine CST therapist. I believe that dogs deserve to benefit from the same gentle non invasive CST treatments as we do, to help improve their overall well being.
I have completed and passed: CranioSacral Therapy 1&2 (CST), Canine CranioSacral Therapy (CCCTT), SomatoEmotional Release 1&2 (SER), SERTIP, Paediatrics (PEDS 1), CST Advanced 1, a degree-level certification in Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology with the College of Body Science.
I am a full member of the Cranio Sacral Society.

CST may be a beneficial treatment in helping to relieve anxiety, tension disorders, alleviate aches, pains and with the strains of life by improving the bodies coping mechanisms, to allow for the better management of stress. It can be extremely helpful in the treatment of head, neck and back injures, headaches, chronic pain and fatigue, organ related issues, depression and people with learning disabilities. It can also improve your immune system as well as numerous other areas that can help to enhance your overall health and well being. When working with children, parents often report that problems with newborns has improved after a CST treatment and the child feels more settled.
Through the use of CST light touch techniques tension can be released allowing the entire body to relax and self correct, freeing the central nervous system to be able to perform at its optimum. By working with the bodies natural and unique rhythm and not against it helps me evaluate the problem areas and listen to what your body needs. Through the use of various techniques, i am able to find where the body is holding restrictions of mobility or if there is pain in an area that is causing the body not to function at its full capacity.
Just as each individual experiences CST sessions differently, the results can be diverse as well. You may leave in such a relaxed state that you feel like sleeping for hours. Or you may leave full of boundless energy. You may feel a decrease in pain or an increase in function immediately after the session, or the effects may develop gradually over the next few days.
Since CST helps the body resume its natural healing processes, it's common for your improvements to continue weeks after the session. You may also experience a reorganisation phase as your body releases previously held patterns as it adapts to a new state of wellness.
It is impossible to put an exact figure on the amount of sessions someone may need, as a CST treatment is completely individual to you and no two people experience the same feeling and results. The condition you are seeking help with maybe treated within one session, or it may take up to 3 or 4 or even longer. The number of sessions can vary widely as we cannot predict how your body will react to CST treatments or how in-depth the restrictions are. With some clients they have a few sessions and then begin to notice when their body needs another appointment.
Your body has its own ‘inner treatment plan’ and its my role as a therapist to assist you in following it. Some people simply feel great after a treatment and decide to come on a regular basis, whilst others may wish to explore the depth of CranioSacral treatment and work to clear emotional trauma and associated physical ailments from the body.
It is possible that as we address one problem area, another may show itself elsewhere as our body often carries many layers of stresses, whether physical or emotional. Once the top layer of tension has been released, another layer could reveal itself, especially if your body is ready to deal with that layer as well. This could be triggered by a physical or emotional readiness, and may be the result of a fairly recent strain, or something that can be traced back to a childhood injury, or something in between.
Your body may have to go back into the same old injury patten to be able to release the tissue therefore causing pain and usually this pain or discomfort should dissipate within a few hours or a day or two, or even by the end of the session.
Your body may continue to release memory of what is stored in the tissue long after the actual treatment. If a new pain is felt, then it may be an opportunity for you to reach a new level of health and shed some restriction that you have been living with but you have not been conscious of as a restriction.
There are a few situations in which CST is not recommended. These include any condition in which a slight variations in intracranial pressure would cause instability, such as acute aneurysm, recent skull fracture, and cerebral haemorrhage or other severe bleeding disorders. If you have any questions about whether these situations apply to you, seek the advice of your physician before receiving a CST session.
CST is intended to work alongside the healthcare service your doctor provides. if you have a particular concern about your health we would always recommend that you consult your GP. CST therapists do not diagnose or prescribe medication.
CST is a perfect complement to talking therapies. Physically processing emotional issues and trauma held in the body supports the work of counselling and psychotherapy.
CST was developed by Osteopathic Physician, John E Upledger after extensive clinical research at Michigan Sate University. Established in 1985, Upledger Institute International has trained more than 125,000 therapists worldwide.
Different levels of awareness will produce different levels of feeling. As you experience more treatment you may tune in more to the subtle movements and changes in your body. Just because you didn't feel much doesn't mean that nothing is going on. You may not realise the subtle tingling in different parts of your body are signs that something is changing and releasing.
Through practical experience it has been observed that the body becomes more attuned to CST with subsequent treatments and your awareness of releases and change within the body will increase accordingly.
